"Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ" (Romans 10:17)

Faith in the word of Christ is not a thing that could be evaluated. Faith cannot be measured and weighed. It can neither be purchased nor sold. Christian faith is not only pure and clear knowledge about God or the perception of the Holy Scriptures in our brain not touching the heart. By faith we are related to God‘s mercy which has been promised to us through Evangelium. The Evangelium of Christ is the basis of faith the removal of which turns faith into ruins and it evaporates fast. Faith in Lord Jesus Christ is God‘s gift to man. Without faith all perfect theological doctrines, cognition and history, even the published books of the Bible, sermons as well as grand towers of churches are only "the treasures of humanity culture". It is only passing-by world, temporary life. Faith in the word of Christ opens the gate to eternal life. Jesus Christ speaks to us through the pages of the Holy Scriptures and all the sermons preached in accordance with them. In faith we find Christ the Saviour and his heavenly power in the pages of history and in the treasures of humanity culture. Our creations are based on faith in Lord Jesus Christ. We are alive and created in the image of God here and now for the eternal life - the community of God‘s people. Christ‘s gathering in the prayer and the visible signs of the Lord. In the honest, responsible life on the Earth to the honour of God.

The confession of faith of Lithuanian Evangelical Reformed Church and its tradition is based on the Holy Scriptures - The Old Testament (39 books, the so-called Palestinian Canon, the original languages are Hebrew and Aramaic) and the New Testament (27 books, the original language is ancient Greek) and historical confessions of faith having originated from the Holy Sriptures as well as the truth teachings of faith. The basic confessions used by the Church are the Apostle‘s Confession (The Apostle‘s Creed), which is common during every service, and also the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed, which is used quite seldom.

The Evangelical Reformed Church of Lithuania considers the early evangelical confessions in the Lithuanian and Polish languages to be the heritage of their confession of faith. They were proclaimed by Reformation theology doctors in Lithuania and Poland in the 16th century before the first Synod of the Evangelical Reformed Church of Lithuania in 1557. We are planning to publish them in the future.

The heritage of the confession of faith of the Lithuanian Evangelical Reformed Church is the Sandomierz confession of faith (Confessija Sandomierska, 1570). It is based on the Second Helvetic Confession and adopted by the common Lithuanian-Polish General Synod. Later it was approved by the Synods of Lithuanian provinces and included in the oath of allegiance during the ordination of ministers. This confession was used in the original language and has not been translated into Lithuanian so far.

The Second Helvetic Confession (1562) as the universal confession of the majority of European Evangelical Reformed Churches is also the confession book of Lithuanian Evangelical Reformed Church. We hope that with God‘s blessings we will soon be able to put the Lithuanian translation on this website after it has been approved by the authority of the Church.
The Heidelberg Catechism (1563) which is used by the majority of Reformed Churches in Europe and all over the world was translated by Dr Kęstutis Daugirdas in 2000 and published in the following year. Thanks to the hard work of senior pastor Tomas Šernas the translation including all the references to the Holy Scriptures is going to be put on this website in the near future.

The Great Gdansk (Danzig) Agenda (1637) is also the heritage of the confession of faith. It is a liturgical book approved by the General Synods and later adopted by the Lithuanian Evangelical Reformed Church. The basics of the book include the essential liturgical rites and the church discipline abundantly illustrated and based on the teachings of the Holy Scriptures, i.e. references to the quotations as well as the rites of the old Christian gatherings and Doctors of the Church. Only separate parts have been translated into Lithuanian and are used either in the liturgy or the Church documents.
