Birzai honorary title 2010 went to the member of the Evangelical Reformed Church, the ethnographer Jonas Dagilis. The residents of Biržai who are also the readers of the newspaper "Šiaurės Rytai" elect annually the most meritorious citizens of the town for 13 nominations. In the year 2009 the honorable title of the brightest person was awarded to the vice superintendent of the Evangelical Reformed Church pastor Rimas Mikalauskas.

For more than fifty years Jonas Dagilis has been writing the history of Birzai region and his native Parovėja district. He always remembers and reminds to others the key points and the important dates and events in the Evangelical Reformed Church. He never forgets to write about the merits of Birzai residents to their town and to the Evangelical Reformed Church.

His rich library contains "Mūsų sparnai", "Sėjėjas" and other pre-war newspapers. He was among those who criticized the work of the Synod of 1993 and never accepted the division of the Church. He made an attempt to talk to the Collegium via the press and started to publish "Reflections."

Jonas Dagilis‘ thoroughness, diligence, perseverance in pursuit of his goals are sometimes considered to be unnecessary and even dangerous by some people. However, it is impossible to stop him. He fights for his views supporting them with convincing arguments.

The residents of Birzai who voted for Jonas Dagilis recalled his publications in the press. In their letters people wrote that thanks to his articles they learn about interesting and famous people who live nearby.
